The Race is on and Here Comes Corona in the Backstretch…

Corona is a speed demon, running just as fast or faster than almost everydog in the park.  It’s quite surprising to know because she always seems to be hunting/ chasing and not leading the pack.  Although she’s very capable of passing many other dogs this Dogo Argentino is much happier just chasing them.

Unfortunately for the two legged participants it’s very difficult to watch their dog as well as the dogs racing to stay out of their way or brace themselves for a hit.  There are benches for people to sit on in order to stay on the sidelines but even those seats aren’t safe anymore.  Dogs that fit under the bench are known to take cover there and those that don’t try to and don’t care who is in their way when trying.

It takes some time for our dog to “warm up” to other dogs as she tends to play shy around them.  The joke’s on her as every person in the park sees how friendly she really can be.  Although much friendlier with humans while we’re near it seems to take her a bit longer to make friends with the four legged world.

Dogo Argentino’s are known to be great guard dogs, and Corona’s a prime example of that but it’s hard to see that particular characteristic in the park.  Saying hello to everyone on two legs first they all make comments on how friendly she is.  Then you see her ‘play’ with dogs and she always seems to be taking on the role of supervisor.

I’m sure these dogs recognize each other by smell but it would be nice if they could share their names with us!  Most often the dogs owners are busy watching out for their dog or with friends so it’s hard to interrupt to get a name.

This German Sheppard is one that gets along well with our Dogo Argentino so we love seeing him in the park.

What Are They Smelling? Oh… Nevermind

Dogs are known to have an amazing sense of smell so why do they always get so close to a scent humans detest?

A dog’s urine means so much more to other dogs than a human’s does to other humans.  While dogs grew in the wild they had to adapt to life much hasher than their lives today.  To protect themselves while caring for themselves they weren’t able to escape to their bed or kennel for protection, they marked their territory by urinating around what territory they claimed.  This way other dogs immediately knew that they were walking into previously claimed territory and went another way.
